Cyclists Massage
What are the benefits of massage for the cyclist?
Pre-Ride Massage
The aim of the pre-ride massage is to warm the muscles and
tendons, like stretching it makes the warm-up time on the
bike more efficient and helps to reduce injury risk from a
cold start.
Post-Ride Massage
On a long mountainous ride the legs will take the brunt of
the punishment, and the quads can be tight and sore as a
result. The upper body can be affected because of the
unnatural riding position, and on our climbs the lower back
and gluts can be affected too. A post-ride massage
aims simply to improve recovery time. The friction and
compression of the massage movements increases blood flow,
allowing oxygen and nutrients to flow into the muscles and
allowing fluids and toxins to be carried away. Massage also
keeps the muscles supple and helps lengthen them out from
the shortened (tight) post ride state. If left, the tight
muscles can limit the range of motion and power output, and
thus affect performance.
You can choose to have a 20 minute massage concentrating on
a particular area of the body i.e. legs, or back and
shoulders, or for a full body massage which takes about 50
minutes.
You can also book a 20 minute self massage session where
Helen will guide you through a pre-ride routine that you can
then use yourself in the future.
Sometimes
massage cannot take place if there are contra indications to
massage, for example if you suffer from some medical
problems or have an injury, and a short consultation will
take place prior to the massage to ensure you get the most
out of the treatment.
You can pre-book massage at a reduced rate or wait until
your stay.
